Longborough Festival Opera cast for its 2023 production of Götterdämmerung

Götterdämmerung (29 May – 6 June 2023).

A new production for the 2023 festival, Götterdämmerung marks the epic conclusion to Longborough’s new Ring cycle, following acclaimed productions of Das Rheingold in 2019 , Die Walküre in 2021 and Siegfried in 2022.

All productions in the cycle are created especially for Longborough by Amy Lane, Artistic Director of Copenhagen Opera Festival, and Longborough Music Director and eminent Wagnerian Anthony Negus. In 2017 The London Wagner Society presented Anthony with the Reginald Goodall Award for his devotion to the works of Richard Wagner, and he previously conducted Longborough’s 2013 Ring cycle to high acclaim.

The Götterdammerung cast includes the talents of Lee Bisset (Brünnhilde), Bradley Daley (Siegfried), Rebecca Afonwy-Jones (Wellgunde), Julian Close (Hagen), Catherine Carby (Waltraute) and inaugural Harewood Artist with ENO, Benedict Nelson (Gunther). The chorus combines professional performers with a new community chorus of local amateur singers.

The full cycle of Der Ring des Nibelungen will be presented in 2024.

“Götterdämmerung is Wagner’s richest, maturest and most stylistically unified part of the Ring. Its profound command of harmony and rich thematic texture is truly awe-inspiring” – Anthony Negus, Music Director, Longborough Festival Opera
