Passion , Music Theatre Wales and NDCWales, Wales Millennium Centre

Passion was a very enigmatic production by NDC Wales in the way that the story was told to the audience.

In this Michael McCarthy production, the stage was empty and dark, with the only design being a blue ladder leading up to the sky in the middle, and a long yellow curtain draped behind them, this left me feeling completely confused with absolutely no idea what to expect.

Choreographed by Caroline Finn, the dancers, however, executed the story perfectly with their movements combining with the voices of EXAUDI and the two angst-ridden, strong soloists in this commissioned English translation by Amanda Holden.

The darkly charismatic dancers for this production included Malik Williams, Julia Rieder, Nikita Goile, Ed Myhill and Cyril Durand-Gasselin with the two lovers torn apart by fate and perhaps their own actions by soprano Jennifer France  and baritone and frequent MTW performer Johnny Herford.

The work, by French composer Pascal Dusapin is here played by London Sinfonietta, conducted by Geoffrey Paterson.
